On March 1 2025, the Government of South Australia introduced new  Regulations under the South Australian Tobacco and E-Cigarette Products Act 1997 (external site) (PDF) to address the risks associated with passive tobacco smoking and passive inhalation of e-cigarette aerosol.

These laws impact sport and active recreation organisations and the spaces in which they deliver sport to their community. Smoking and vaping are banned in all public areas at or within 10 meters of a sporting venue when:

  • an organised underage sporting event is being conducted; or
  • a training or practice session to prepare for participation in an organised underage sporting event is being conducted.
