South Australian high school students will receive a classroom lesson from an Olympian in a statewide program inspiring young people to lead healthy, active lives.
Olympics Unleashed connects schools with Olympians and elite athletes, who draw on their own lessons to help students achieve their goals in any field they choose.
The joint initiative with the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) is available to every public and private high school and aimed at Years 7-9 across the state.
The free program is expected to reach around 200 schools and 30,000 students by the end of 2027, aligning to the state’s curriculum while supporting children’s mental and physical wellbeing.
Olympians will also deliver presentations at up to 50 School Sport SA events over the next two years.
Olympics Unleashed supports the State Government’s plan to get kids off screens as part of a $75 million election commitment – which includes mandatory active learning during school time and free activities before and after school.
A roster of 40 SA Olympians and SASI athletes – such as three-time Olympian marathon runner Jessica Stenson and local athlete Isobel Batt-Doyle – will share their stories through the program and help students apply these themes to their lives.
Morialta Secondary College is among more than 30 schools that have already signed up, with regional visits including Millicent High School, Renmark High School, Minlaton High School, Cowell Area School and Victor Harbor High School.
Established in 2018, Olympics Unleashed has reached more than 630,000 students nationally across 4,300 school visits.
The State Government has brought back the program to inspire the next generation in the lead-up to the Los Angeles 2028 Games and 2032 Brisbane Games.
This $500,000 partnership builds on South Australia’s significant investment in sport participation and high-performance pathways, including the new SASI opening along with the $92 million multi-sport redevelopment underway at Mile End.
Schools can register to participate in Olympics Unleashed here.
