The ACH Group has developed a Stay in the Game challenge to introduce video gaming to South Australians aged over 65 years, promoting physical activity and social connections.

Research shows that increasing physical activity and social interaction improves not only physical and mental health but can improve cognitive function.

Video games can also have a positive effect on spatial navigation, the brain’s ability to learn, wellbeing, social connection, and even mobility and balance.

Using technology, the ACH Group’s six-week program encouraged older persons to challenge their families and friends and reconnect to sports and activities that they used to play or try totally new activities.

Some 300 older South Australians participated in the program with many participants reporting improved fitness and greater connections with their younger grandchildren and social interaction.
