Risk and Audit Committee Expressions of Interest – Chairperson & Independent Members

The Office for Recreation Sport and Racing is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified people for three (3) independent members, including a Chairperson, of their newly established Risk and Audit Committee.   The appointment will be for a period of up to 3 years.

The Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) is the government’s lead Agency for the development of sports and recreation policy, programs and resources, the provision of funding, recreation and sport planning, infrastructure development, elite sport pathways and the promotion of physical activity.

The Risk and Audit Committee is an expert advisory panel which assists the Chief Executive on internal control arrangements, risk management processes, regulatory compliance, financial reporting and internal audit and integrity functions of the Agency. The Risk and Audit Committee advises on these matters taking into consideration the legislation, Regulations and Rules, as well as policies and procedures applicable to ORSR, and its operating environment.

Successful members will bring advanced decision-making and business acumen, knowledge of corporate governance, and a commitment to the successful future of ORSR. Highly developed communication skills and the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships are essential.

We are seeking independent members with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Corporate governance;
  • Audit & Risk committee or other board membership;
  • Financial management;
  • Internal audit and/or risk management experience in the management of large organisations; and
  • Experience in / or understanding of public sector financial management and risk management practices

Successful chairpersons will:

  • Possess a relevant tertiary qualification in the field of accounting, auditing or law;
  • Bring an understanding of the function of the Committee and applicable legislation;
  • Display an understanding of the public sector in terms of auditing, governance and the risk management environment; and
  • Be able to lead constructive dialogue with management, internal and external auditors and officers of the Auditor-General’s department.

The Committee will meet at least four (4) times per year and independent members receive a sitting fee of $350 for each meeting ($400 for the Chair) attended and reimbursement of travelling expenses.
